Note From A Teacher

This poem is dedicated to the students of Nicoma Park Junior High School, school year 2000-2001.  It was written after observing their comings and goings on the
27th of September, 2000.

Theirs is a world all its own-one to be envied,
one to be cherished and one to be remembered.

From the time they entered the building to the time they left on the bus, there was an electric charge- a charge of pure energy fed by happiness, charm and character- surrounding them like an aura clearly visible to those observing them.. As a substitute teacher, I get to observe young people from all age groups- elementary through high school-,and none seem to have that aura like junior high students.  This appears to be the time that their character, their individuality and their very soul
is being developed.

On that day, I watched them as they came into the classroom, while they were there, in the hallway, at their lockers, in the lunch room and at the buses.  Their enthusiasm is contagious and its effects stay with you indefinitely.. They are to be commended for their achievements thus far in their journey through life.  They are on their way to becoming the leaders of our future- leaders that I will gladly follow.     GO FALCONS !!!!!

A TEACHER'S THOUGHT

Happy faces, sad eyes, tears in a few
Hip huggers, pedal pushers, some with no shoes.
Tattered jeans, tailored suits, dressed for comfort or class
Girls with new makeup-wearing out the looking glass.
These are the styles, these are the faces
Of junior high students, busy going places.
Eager to learn, eager to please-young minds ripe for molding
Learning to challenge a world that is theirs for the holding.
All too soon, all too fast, they reach that magic day
When school is out, youth is gone and life has gone its way,
And they'll look back with wonder upon these golden years.
Now, with mist filled eyes, I realize-- I ONCE WAS HERE !
